Individual Sponsorship in Davao
The Philippines displays extreme beauty and economic growth alongside rampant exploitation and severe poverty. The children are affected the most. In 2002, 1.87 million youth and children in the Philippines did not attend school. That number has risen to 5.6 million in recent years. Nearly 1/3 of children drop out of school by grade 6. Our program exists to change these numbers through health, education, and nurture.
The holistic scholarship program is aimed at addressing the needs of squatter communities. Due to crippling poverty, children are at risk of exploitation, child labor, crime, abuse, and serious health issues. We focus on children in targeted areas, choosing quality over quantity. These children not only receive protection and prevention from risk and trauma, but also are empowered to rebuild their community. It also gives significant attention to the entire family of each child, recognizing that healthy families lead to healthy children.
Our project has three main areas of focus:
- Health and Nutrition - Each child receives healthy meals, health assessments and de-worming, health and safety training for themselves and their parents.
- Education - Each child is given school supplies and parents are kept accountable for school enrollment. Academic, artistic, and spiritual mentorship is also provided.
- Nurture - An environment of love is created through parental training, development plans for each child, and special experiences.
We aim to nurture children into positive life skills and attitudes so that they can be the agents of change for their community and their nation.
